No more “Favorites” category

Last post in the Favorites category.
This will be the last post to go into the “Favorites” category so if you’re subscribed to that category’s RSS feed, cancel out and update it to our main feed. We decided it’d be better to just update on things we’re really excited about instead of racing to copy and paste everything. Everything posted now would technically be our “favorite.”

Tips for freelance photographers

ESPN
Here’s another one for those wanting to work in the industry.

Since the digital age is upon us, it's seems its no surprise that everyone is a photographer these days. It seems like I keep hearing the same questions more and more. Like, how do get my photos published in a magazine? Who do I contact? What are they looking for? This gave me the idea to start this series of posts, about what it takes to be a contributing photographer. Hopefully to answer any questions all you up and coming photographers may have. I'll be talking to a series of different contributors and staff photographers from various BMX magazines and diving into each, with the plan of giving you an idea what their looking for and how to start. I'll also be giving you my personal insight and years of experience shooting as a freelancer and as a magazine staff photographer. I guess these tips could apply to any magazine but what I'll be referring to BMX Magazines.

Working in the Industry

Ride BMX
Read this if you ever want to work in the industry.

A week or so ago, Adam from The Come Up posted some of his opinions on the chance someone has to make a living in BMX. I know it wasn’t supposed to be the end-all-be-all guide, but it seemed to serve to discourage anyone from doing anything that involves working within BMX. I realize that I’m sitting in a tiny little epicenter, but within ten square miles of me, there’s 20 some-odd riders making a full-time living off of BMX in one way or another, including: photographer, online editor, team manager, videographer, graphic designer, Web site developer, parts designer, entrepreneur, sales, warehouse worker, and yes, even pro riders. To say there are no viable career opportunities in BMX is pretty inaccurate. The reality is that you can’t put a scale on your chances—there’s multiple paths you can choose, and hundreds of jobs available for the person that works hard enough. There’s no chance or percentages when it comes to landing a career you want—don’t be a twat, make some friends, do some work, and it’ll go a long way.

Ryan Fudger’s photos

Ryan's Blog
Inside all them rain drops is a bicycle!

Photos that I like that I’ve shot (number one). My fourth favorite thing to do is to stroke my own immense ego (sitting, drinking, riding are in the lead—in no order). If my ego was manifested into a woman, it’d be Heidi Klumm (or my girlfriend, for when she reads this). Then I’d sleep with my ego. It would then have my superego child and we’d complete the triangle of Id, ego, and superego. As of now, I’m just Id, I believe.

Taj’s new signature grip

The Blog of Taj
SRC: The Best Blog in the Universe

One of the things that never gets finished on my list of things to do is designing a signature grip for Odyssey. Its really quite a honor so if I ever do a grip I really want it to be something good and original. The problem is that it seems like every grip design has been done to death. The truth is, grips never feel good till they break in a bit and in the end, it doesn’t really matter what the tread design in the beginning is anyway. So, I’ve been trying to think of some new cool and very original ideas. I’m pretty sure that through the rubber molding process we can really do anything (like the dino above). I have a few ideas below if you can imagine them molded in rubber.
